Securing an iPad for Kid-Friendly Use – Configure iPad or iPhone for Local Management – Set a Screen Time PIN
Configuring settings locally is suitable if you as the parent/guardian do not have an iOS device or there is just one to configure. There is no point configuring settings to restrict usage on an iOS device and not lock those settings down. A frustrated kid can be quite resourceful and your settings won’t last long.
To configure:
Go to your iPhone or iPad’s Settings app.
Scroll down and tap Screen Time.
If Screen Time is not already enabled, tap Turn On Screen Time.
Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your device as either This is My iPhone or This is My Child’s iPhone.
Next, set a Passcode:
Scroll down and select Use Screen Time Passcode.
Set a 4-digit passcode that will be required to change Screen Time settings or override limits.
You’ll be asked to enter your Apple ID and password. This is useful in case you forget the passcode.
Remember this PIN and don’t use anything obvious. Guesses are unlimited but the more guesses the longer it makes you wait in-between.
